Antique Cast Iron Jardinière
Details: Scalloped rim and original basin drainage holes
The Heritage Note
A magnificent anchor of raw texture and weight, this late 19th-century cast iron jardinière brings the rugged romance of an overgrown French estate indoors. Forged in solid fonte, it features a beautifully scalloped rim that gives way to a densely molded garland of florals sweeping across its basin.
Elevated on four striking, stylized paw-and-leaf feet, the piece balances its immense structural weight with grand, scrolling handles. Discovered in the South of France, its surface has surrendered to a breathtaking, oxidized patina—a deeply rusted finish that only a century of open-air exposure can achieve.
Retaining its original drainage holes in the base, it remains as functional as it is sculptural. It serves as an extraordinary vessel for sprawling ivy, a dramatic cluster of moss and natural coral, or simply standing as a solitary architectural focal point on a long wooden dining table.
