Antique Bronze Embrasses
Details: Sweeping cast curves and classical finials
The Heritage Note
Sourced in the sun-drenched South of France, this striking pair of antique bronze curtain tie-backs—known formally as embrasses de rideaux—brings a masterful architectural weight to interior textiles. Forged in solid bronze during the late 19th century, their sweeping, lyrical curves culminate in beautifully cast classical finials.
Measuring a substantial 32 by 19 centimeters, these were designed to hold the heavy, luxurious drapes of a grand manor house. The metal has developed a gorgeous, authentic patina over a century of use, catching the ambient light of a room with a quiet, grounded warmth that perfectly offsets the cooler tones of silver or raw stone.
They are highly functional sculptures for the modern home. Whether used to gather thick, pooling linen panels in a country bedroom or to secure rich velvet drapes in a formal study, these embrasses offer an immediate sense of permanence and sophisticated French heritage.
