Details: Original master wood backing sheet
The Heritage Note
Discovered within the shuttered rooms of a grand Maison de Maître in the historic Périgord region, this exquisite brass repoussé mirror is a jewel of intimacy. While grand salon mirrors of the mid-19th century relied on vast scale, this smaller architectural piece commands attention purely through the masterful density of its high-relief detailing.
The frame belongs to the height of the Napoleon III epoch, showcasing a majestic central crest shaped into a classical urn from which symmetry and elaborate foliate scrolls cascade. Every vine, bloom, and flourish has been hand-stamped and hammered into the heavy brass, resulting in a remarkably tactile border that framing the original glass below.
Measuring an intimate 38 by 22 centimeters, its proportions make it incredibly elusive compared to standard pieces of the era. Complete with its original, thick dark wood back-board, it serves as a stunningly sculptural accent—perfectly suited for an elegant jewelry alcove, a narrow gallery wall, or floating amidst a collection of storied portraits.
